Caribbean Food Delight

March 22nd 2012 was a very beautiful day with sunny sky. It was the day when Mr. Vincent Ho Sang president and CEO of "Caribbean Food Delight" came to our college and shared his experience with us. The discussion was about the secret of his success.
Vincent Ho Sang and Jeanette Ho Sang entered into the food business in 1978. But they achieved popularity when they started "Caribbean Food Delights” in 1990. CFD is the largest Jamaican frozen food plant in the U.S.A and received prestigious awards for the quality of the food production. During the discussion many reasons were mentioned for his success in food industry but some plausible one are:-
1/ The location of the business
2/ High quality food.
3/ High worker morals.

Spinach & Feta Hand Pies - Frugal Mom Eh!

1/ The location of the business: - A very important aspect to consider before starting a business is its location. Mr. Ho Sang said there are owners who rent stores at cheap prices in places with low or no business opportunity that’s why they struggle to find customers to be profitable. But his store was in a vey busy place close to a subway station. Easily accessible to many customers leading to more sales and more profits for the business.
2/ High quality food: - Mr. Ho Sang said when he first bought the "fired chicken'' in Bronx in 1978 at that time he didn't know anything about how to make fried chicken. But the previous owner had left him two of his workers. Mr. Ho Sang planned to watch them cook and serve food to the customer. Even though he did not know how to cook but he pointed unhygienic practice like they did not change the oil regularly and sold old products from the previous day. Ho Sang changed the approach and corrected their unhygienic approach by ordering them to change oil regularly and throw out old products.

3/ High workers morals: - Mr. Ho Sang emphasized on this topic quit a lot. He said health care benefit is very expensive but if you want good worker you have to provide them with such benefits and also encourage them by rewarding for their work. Ms. Anoux  CFD manager for 17 years recently retired and her long venture with CFD was encourage by her high working morals in the company. She was the production employee who had worked for CFD since the plant opened in Tappan, New York in 1994.

According to Ho Sang, to be a businessman one needs to have knowledge of Economics. She/he has to provide right product and customer service and only then the business would grow. Finally any owner of a company has to take good care of his workers. The owner has to treat them like family and then they will stay. Mr. Ho Sang has steered his business by these ideology and it took him to the door of success, which is why we should all be following his modest and honest footsteps.
